Short Bio

Manoel G. Mendonça received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1997. He also holds a M.Sc. in computer engineering from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP-1990), and a Bachelors in electrical engineering from the Federal University of Bahia, (UFBa - 1986), both in Brazil. Dr. Mendonça was a visiting scientist and was awarded a doctoral fellowship from the IBM Toronto Laboratory's Centre for Advanced Studies. Between 1997 and 2000, he worked as a Faculty Research Associate at the University of Maryland and as a scientist at the Fraunhofer Center for Experimental Software Engineering in Maryland. He joined the Salvador University (UNIFACS) as a Professor in 2000. There he headed the Networking and Computing Research Center (NUPERC) from 2004 to 2008. He also served as a member of the Computer Science Technical Chamber at the Bahia State Research Agency (FAPESB) from 2005 to 2008. He joined the Computer Science Depatment of the Federal University of Bahia in 2009. At UFBA, he headed the Computer Science Doctoral Program (2010-2012), created and heads the Software Engineering Laboratory since 2009, and is the Director of the Fraunhofer Project Center for Software and Systems Engineering? (FPC@UFBA) since 2012. Prof. Mendonça is a member of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and a senior member of IEEE. His main research interest are on software engineering, information visualization, mobile computing and knowledge management systems.
